One Fabulous Finale

31 August 2015

It is hard to believe it, but we are on our last day of our Kickoff, and man, have we given away a lot of loot! We've given away seven gift certificates and thirty eight items from our stores on Teachers Pay Teachers, but the best part, now you know where we are!  We plan to make *this* blog your go-to place for content we study in Virginia, and we want to hear from you on what you need to help improve your students' classroom experience and to help make your job easier.

On this, our last kick off day, we introduce you to Lori from Your Teacher Assistant and Adrienne from Having Class in Third. Read on to learn more about them.

Click here to get my Seasons Anchor Charts

Writing is a wonderful way to help children develop their communication skills. Even some of your most reluctant communicators can find their voice through writing. Anchor charts are a very useful tool for helping your students develop their narrative writing skills of sharing events and telling stories, as these skills allow writers to use their previous experiences to generate ideas. Virginia children are blessed to be able to experience each of the seasons, so teachers can have students use the Seasons Anchor Charts to write on the four seasons as they arrive or end their day throughout the school year.  Each anchor chart is packed with colorful pictures, things people do in each season, and even vocabulary as an extra support for struggling writers or learners. They are perfect for special education and ESL/ELL students as well.

28 August 2015

Wendy and Cheryl hope you are enjoying all the freebies and drawings over the past two weeks. But they are not done yet!  They have you covered today for the letters M and E in STEM. Wendy and Cheryl have an engineering lesson.  Enjoy!

Meet Wendy and Cheryl

We had a great time visiting the
Old Town Manassas Train Station
in Northern Virginia! What you can't see in the picture is the concert going on at the gazebo in front of us. The audience ended up with two shows:
our picture taking event  and the guy singing.
We always aim to entertain!

And check out our website at
Getcaughtengineering.com for some
great STEM ideas and resources

And of course make sure you enter the drawing for the $25 gift card to Starbucks....how nice would that be to have for the first days of school? Wendy is originally from the Seattle area so she knows the importance of an "Americano with an extra shot" to get the morning going or a "Skim Latte" after a long day! Check back tomorrow to meet more of our Virginia colleagues and for more freebies
for your classroom.

Virginia is for Readers

27 August 2015

Today's post is all about reading and readers. Can we get a "Yeah!"??  These gals have fabulous freebies to help you with the 40 Book Challenge.  Have you heard about this?  Donalyn Miller is the person who coined the term and describes how she ran the 40 Book Challenge in her classroom.  For more information, we highly recommend both of her books to help you energize the readers in your room.

Are you ready to meet our next bloggers?  Well, let me introduce Stacy from Tidbits from a Tag Teacher and Jessica from Teaching Oasis.

A Little This or That with Jackie and Andrea

26 August 2015

Back to school yet? Most schools in our area have begun, but we know a few of you are winding down summer yet.  Even so, you probably are beginning to think of the new year.  Summer seems to end so quickly.

Jackie and I are playing a little bit of This and That, so you can get to know us a little better.  Here is mine!

As a reading specialist, I definitely love teaching reading, and while I was in the classroom, I enjoyed all of the science experiments I could do with the students. It was so fun to see them get excited about what they were learning.  And because I love teaching reading, small groups are the way to go!  I feel like I can learn so much more about my students and work in their areas of need more closely.

I taught third and fourth graders for 14 years and loved, loved, loved their independence sense of humor, and the content I taught.  I have been a reading specialist for the past 5 years and enjoy every minute of it.

I love the end of the year, so I can reflect on my students' growth.  It makes me happy to see how much they have grown over the course of the year.  And spring time here is lovely as the flowers bloom all over the place.

And now,

To get to know us a little bit better Andrea and I are playing a little This OR That! Check out my favorites below:

I LOVE teaching my students in a small group setting! I feel like I get to know my students so much better this way and I also feel that they enjoy learning more when I can individualize instruction in these small groups.

When teaching, I LOVE picture books! I have TONS of picture and could spend hours in the library getting lost in the pictures! My favorite picture books are Mo Willems "Elephant & Piggie" series! They make me laugh every time!

I have taught 1st and 2nd grade for 5 years now and I adore working with primary grades. The fall is my favorite season here in VA because the fall foliage is beautiful, but I also love the fall because it means it is the start of a new school year! I get so energized by the start of a new school year!

I hope you enjoyed getting to know us! Make sure to enter to win below!
