President's Day, FREEBIE, & GIVEAWAY

February might be a short month but it is a fantastic month to celebrate Famous Americans! With President's Day on February 15th, it is a great time to learn about all of the wonderful Americans that helped to build our country and fight for freedom. After teaching in the primary grades for over five years I have a few favorite go-to books I love to read in February!

Abe Lincoln: The Boy Who Loved Books by Kay Winters is a beautifully illustrated book that looks at Abrahams life and depicts how books changed his life so that he could one day change the country. It is a terrific book to not only to teach about Abe but also teach our students the importance of reading!

George Did It by Suzanne Tripp Jurmain is a book with a bit of humor and facts about George Washington. While he is often portrayed in a positive historical light, this book brings to light his human side as it shows his nervous and anxious feelings about becoming President. It teaches students how overcoming nervous feelings can lead to great things.

President's Day by Anne Rockwell gives presidential facts through a fictional story about students in a classroom. It is a relatable book for students in elementary school and demonstrates some of the ways we celebrate President's Day in school.

My students also enjoy BrainPopJr. and Scholastic videos on Abraham Lincoln and George Washington.

To celebrate President's Day I have added a Comparing Presidents FREEBIE! This freebie includes both color and black & white graphic organizers along with a word bank to help support students when completing their comparison! Feel free to download from my store.

If you are a Second Grade teacher that is teaching VA SOL 2.11 (Students will identify George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Susan B. Anthony, Helen Keller, Jackie Robinson, and Martin Luther King, Jr., as Americans whose contributions improved the lives of other Americans) I am giving away a copy of my Famous Americans Bulletin Board & Sort Cards Set! Enter your name in the Rafflecopter below and a lucky winner will be selected after midnight tonight, Friday, February 5th!

Thanks for visit and Happy President's Day!
